A Letter of Thanks

We began this outing as a trial. There were a few skeptics, but they pitched in anyway and what a great ride this has been over the last 9 years. Every year the Wings of Steel annual Golf outing has continued to surpass the previous year’s fundraising results. That success is through the efforts of our families and benefactors. We are truly blessed and fortunate to have a network of support that simply wants to see these kids have the opportunity play sled hockey.

Our largest contributors do not seek recognition. They do it because they can and are generous with their own good fortune. We are extremely grateful for their support and commitment to the Wings of Steel. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge just how far and wide our support has grown. Our Lunch was provided by Brandywine Global, Dinner is generously sponsored by Virtua. Cocktail hour is sponsored by gentlemen that fly in from thier home states of Arizona and Texas, just to attend the outing. Another golfer, Joe DeLauro (played hockey for Eastern HS), travels from the Boston area every year, just to support the Wings and participate in the outing. One of Joe’s group, Tim Gonzalez, was on break from classes where he is studying medicine in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tim gets a big shout out for travelling the farthest this year!

A special thanks to Ron Jaworski and the outstanding Ramblewood Staff. Hal Goodwin and Bill McCoy and his crew never disappoint and handle our large numbers with ease every year. With 55 foursomes on the course that is no small feat.

The top 2 foursomes for the 9th Annual Wings of Steel Golf Outing :

1. Scot McKay, Brian Propp, Andy Adams and Carl Hinrich
2. Tom Ritz, Dave Ritz, Shawn Pringle and Shawn Kulik

This event is a success because of folks who consistently give their time and efforts. The Staerk family, Mike Goebel, Paul Valentine, Ernie Jewel, Tom & Lynn Brake, Lori and Bill Kile, Terri & Mike Potter, Katie & Tayler Sheldrick, Chrissie Mauger, Brian and Carolyn Shaw, Kathy and Paul Tursi and Dennis and Diane Senk, just to name a few. This year we had some new families join us, the Belcher Family, who also sponsored a beer cart, the Leight Family, who donated numerous baskets. Also working hard was Bonnie, Olga, Vicki, Rich, Nancy and Roy, Oni, Sue, Chuck, Hannah, Maureen Jewell, Karen Valentine, Norm Jones and Sherri. Also a big thank you to my SJHSHL Family, Maureen Robinson, Sue Rudley, Mary Lou Maloney and Mike Pontonio-who not only donated baskets but their time. Also to the referees, Chris Riccardi, Bob Teti, Jack Scarpinato, Andy Rappo and Matt Pensabene. Special shout out to Victoria Pennetti who came through on her promise of a shirt sponsor.

The 9th Annual Wings of Steel Golf tournament was a tremendous success, even Mother Nature could not put a damper on the day. From the Baskets to the Big ticket auction items, to the Mulch that everybody wants but doesn’t want to shovel, it was fun, it was well done and because of it all the Virtua Wings of Steel will sled throughout the year. Special kudos to the team members as they worked their special abilities and sold over $2000 in 50/50 tickets.

And at the end of the day, they lined up and the lobby and thanked their guests as they left the club house.

Go WINGS!
