Record Turnout for 2017 Wings Awards Banquet
Written by Mike Costantino

The Virtua Wings of Steel held their annual end of year banquet at the Democrat club once again and we had a record turnout of 73 people in attendance. Speculation has it that because Chrissie Mauger was supplying the main menu might have been one of the reasons. Founder and President Tom Brake greeted the crowd and began by speaking about our biggest fund raiser, the annual golf outing, which just celebrated its 10th Anniversary!

"When I first started this golf outing I had no idea that it would grow to what it has become, but am proud and grateful to everyone that has participated over the years. The generosity of people with their time and money is overwhelming."

Next on the day’s agenda, Coach Paul began his individual recognizing each player and what makes them special. We have a few new players; Matthew Douglass, Ian Todd and Michaela Johnson were introduced. Coach Paul then went on to recognize Anthony Ambrose, Stephen Belcher, William Chernets, Matt Chowansky, Lucas Harrop, Yazid Ismael, Colton Naylor, Nasir Ray, Xander Satterfield, and Robert Vettese.

Dennis and Diane Senk presented the annual Michael Senk Award to Nate “Buzz’ Costa.

Brian Shaw presented the annual Jessica Shaw award to Kai “Fire” Dakhari.

The new captain was introduced to the kid with the biggest heart on the team Paul “Freight Train” Tursi.

Also introduced as alternate captains were Garrett “G-man” Goebel, Yusef “Yo Bro” Ismael and Kai “Fire” Dakhari.

Coach closed with mentioning the end of Mike “BuddhaMan” Mauger’s 11 year run with the Wings, as Mike moves on to the Flyers sled team.
