This past December the Cherokee alumni played the Flyers alumni in a benefit game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees and the Wings of Steel were one of 4 charities to receive 25% of the proceeds. This is the second year in a row the Wings have benefitted from this event and this past Thursday Coach Scott McKay along with Mr. Peter Burd came to practice to present the team with a check for $7,500!

The foundation, founded seven years ago to honor the 2004 meningitis-related passing of 16-year-old Cherokee Chiefs hockey player Jeff Burd, the annual Alumni Memorial Game played in his honor has grown into a means of turning tragedy into a way to help others and support worthy causes. This year's Memorial was the biggest in the event's history. The Wings are very appreciative of the Burd Foundation’s generosity.
